Pink Fluorescence from Perch Teeth
Recent observations reveal that the teeth on the upper lip of perch exhibit faint pink fluorescence under UV light (365 nm) excitation.
The specimen was purchased from a market in Huadu District, Guangzhou, on July 26, 2025. After scaling and slaughter by the vendor, the upper lip was excised at home, boiled in tap water, and soft tissue was removed to isolate the bony structure.
Microscopic examination under white LED and UV illumination (365 nm) at 4× and 10× objective magnifications (10× eyepiece) confirmed the fluorescence. The specific compounds or structural features responsible, as well as potential biological functions, remain unclear and require further investigation.
